Dr. Mylena Medeiros

Mylena Medeiros is the director of the Therapeutic Riding Center-EquoAmigos in the state of Rio de Janeiro. She has been a physical therapist since 1996, and specialized in Therapeutic Riding and Neurorehabilitation in Brazil. She published four books about horseback riding therapy which had large receptivity in Brazil and abroad. She worked as a university professor and created the Therapeutic Horseback Riding course for six universities in Brazil. Mylena is the president of Equoamigos Association, a non-profit organization,which offers therapeutic horsebck riding treatment since 1997. Currently, Mylena Medeiros lives in Canada, where she is conducting a research project associated with therapeutic horseback riding at University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg.

What Dr. Mylena Medeiros says:

"My mission with Hippotherapy began in 1996, with the opening of our Região Oceânica centre, located in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, following my graduation in physiotherapy at the Helena Antipoff Higher School of Education.
Since then I have started a awareness and advertising campaign of this important work and through the publication of four scientific technicals books approaching the wider variety of this method, at present I am the only Brazilian researcher to develop this research with international scope.
In many internationals and nationals congresses this subject was discussed and eventually after eight years we conquered the inclusion of Hippoherapy as a curricular subject, taught in the final semester of the Physiotherapy Course, where I am a lecturer, at Salgado de Oliveira University-Universo, which it is located in five different estates of Brazil."
